Submission to NSDAC

Neighbourhood Pharmacies has recommended that the National Drug Scheduling Advisory Committee retain the existing Schedule III Classification for bisacodyl 10 mg suppositories in package sizes containing 10 suppositories rather than move it to unscheduled status. Specifically we believe:

  • the current scheduling framework already provides appropriate access
  • continued pharmacist oversight is still required to safeguard patient safety (particularly as larger pack sizes may increase the risk of inappropriate use)
  • the international regulator context does not support further deregulation.

We further emphasized the important role of community pharmacy in patient care.
