The Economic Footprint of Canada's Pharmacy Sector

Fuelling Health and Local Economies

econ footprint cover EN

Canada's more than 12,500 community pharmacies are much more than healthcare destinations - they are thriving local businesses, major employers, and essential contributors to Canada's economy. Together, they generate billions of dollars in economic activity, support hundreds of thousands of jobs, and strengthen communities from coast to coast to coast.

Commissioned by the Neighbourhood Pharmacy Association of Canada and independently prepared by Signal49 Research, The Economic Footprint of Canada's Pharmacy Sector: Fuelling Health and Local Economies is the first national study to comprehensively measure the sector's economic contribution. The findings demonstrate that pharmacies are both essential healthcare infrastructure and critical economic infrastructure, reinforcing their importance to Canada's health system, local economies, and long-term prosperity.
