Neighbourhood Pharmacies applauds Manitoba College of Pharmacists plan to expand scope of practice, reduce barriers, and strengthen community-based care access across the province. In our submission response to their recent public consultation on administering and prescribing hormonal contraceptive drugs, we voiced our support for authorizing pharmacists to prescribe contraction, including injectable contraceptives.
To further enable pharmacies to implement this service, we also recommended the College:
* Remove mandatory condition-specific training requirements and rely on existing competency frameworks.
* Expand pharmacist prescribing authority for additional minor ailments and integrate point-of-care testing into care pathways.
* Broaden pharmacy-based immunization authority, including vaccine prescribing and expanded technician roles.
* Enable greater use of pharmacy technology, automation, and central-fill models to support modern care delivery.
