Neighbourhood Pharmacies is pleased to release its 2022 Ontario provincial election platform Investing in Access. The platform provides two key recommendations: make routine immunizations more accessible and enable pharmacists to assess and prescribe for minor ailments.
“We propose two key recommendations to enable pharmacy to effectively, efficiently support the public health and primary care needs of Ontarians: making routine immunizations more accessible and enabling pharmacists to assess and prescribe for minor ailments,” says Sandra Hanna, CEO, Neighbourhood Pharmacies. “Ontario’s pharmacies have offered accessible, critical support to patients and communities throughout the pandemic and are a partner to government, public health and primary care providers. Working with the community pharmacy sector helps expand access to vital healthcare services for Ontarians, allowing the government to focus on economic recovery and health system resilience.”
Making routine immunizations more accessible will benefit Ontarians by:
• Preventing new disease outbreaks
• Providing equitable vaccine access
• Increasing vaccine uptake and healthcare capacity
Similarly, enabling pharmacists to assess and prescribe for minor ailments will benefit Ontarians by:
• Reducing pressure on primary care and ERs
• Providing timely access to convenient care
• Uncomplicating the patient journey
